#Newsflash | Noguchi Museum Exhibition Goes Back to the Future

Some things are so nice that you have to exhibit them twice.

Against Time: The Noguchi Museum 40th Anniversary Reinstallation will be on view at – where else? – Noguchi Museum from Wednesday, Aug. 28, to Saturday, Sept. 14.

Coinciding with the venue’s 40th anniversary in 2025, Against Time includes more than 60 works, including brass and wood sculptures dating back to 1928 – shortly after Isamu Noguchi worked as an assistant in Constantin Brancusi’s Paris studio – as well as three busts he made in the 1930s. Interlocking slate-and-marble structures from the 1940s and unrealized designs for monuments and memorials are also part of the exposition. Some pieces are returning to view for the first time since 2009.

Located at 9-01 33rd Rd. in Long Island City, Noguchi Museum is across the street from where the namesake had a studio. The prolific artist (1904-1988) created sculptures, gardens, furniture and lighting designs, ceramics, architecture, landscapes, and set designs. His father was a Japanese poet and his mother was a white woman from Brooklyn, and his art reflects the two cultures.
