Over the past few years, Queens has proven that it can deal with the Super Himalaya and Wacky Worm Roller Coaster, but is the World’s Borough ready for Monster Trucks and the Big Bee Transforming Robot Car?
Find out during the St. John’s University Carnival, which will run on school grounds from Thursday, July 13, to Sunday, July 23.
Dreamland Amusements presents this 10-day, family-friendly festival that features everything from twisty, twirly treks to bouncy bumper cars with music, games, and funnel cakes.
Time-honored rides include the Mulligan Patriot Wheel, the Pharaoh’s Fury swinging boat, and the Sea Dragon pendulum. And for the first time, attendees can marvel at Monster Trucks and Big Bee (below), a real moving car that transforms into a 15-foot action robot.
General admission is $5, but children under 36-inches-tall can attend for free. A single ticket costs $1.50 with 20-for-$30 and 50-for-$60 options. Purchase tickets online or on-site.
St. John’s University Carnival is set for Belson Stadium on the Jamaica Estates campus. Enter into the parking lot via the gates along Utopia Parkway and Union Turnpike. Operating hours are 5 pm to 10 pm on weekdays and noon to 10 pm on weekend days.
In addition to those mentioned previously, here’s a primer on some of the regular rides.
Delusion: A towering machine that turns patrons upside down in three directions.
Dream Wheel: Seven-stories-high with breathtaking views. Each gondola car holds four people.
Screaming Eagle Orbiter: A red, white, and blue giant that spins in a circle. The cars spin, too.
Starship 3000: A straight shot to the Milky Way, although intergalactic creatures might hop on board at any time.
Dreamland Amusements is actually on a New York State tour right now. After St. John’s, the company travels to upstate carnivals in Altamont, Oswego, and Schaghticoke, as well as Addison, Caledonia, Delaware, Franklin, Orange, Schoharie, and Ulster counties.
