If you oversleep, don’t worry. The Woodside-based, Filipino-style bakery will be at Fifth Hammer Brewing at 10-28 46th Ave. in Long Island City on May 4 and May 11, from 12:30 pm to 3 pm both days.
These unique, east-meets-west pastries are available at the Unisphere Cafe at Queens Museum, too. Or order online by clicking here.
Arellano Pandesal’s main products are fluffy, soft Unswirlys, which offer a New York City spin on classic Ensayamadas. Flavors include Cheesy, Chili Crisp, Strawberry Milk, and Sweet Vanilla with traditional and crumb bun versions.
Prices might vary, but the general rule is one for $7, two for $12.50, and four for $24.
Without giving away the secret recipes, here’s more Unswirly information.
Sweet Vanilla: filled with four layers of ethically sourced vanilla and topped with real Belgian pearl sugar.
Cheesy: stuffed with aged Gruyère, Sharp Cheddar, and Provolone.
Chili Crisp: styled with smokey dried chilies, spices, and the house blend of spicy oil.
Strawberry Milk: filled with organic strawberry jam swirls and topped with house strawberry sugar and a strawberry white chocolate glaze.
The Barako Choko Browne is currently available for a limited time. It features dark chocolate and super strong Barako coffee from the Batangas region of the Philippines.
About one year old, Arellano Pandesal is Queens through-and-through (or true and true, if you prefer). The founder, Jennifer Arellano, was born and raised in Woodhaven, and all the products are produced and packaged at Tiny Drumsticks in Long Island City. (Both her parents are from the Philippines, and her recipes come from generations-old family secrets.)
Editor’s note: Unswirlys contain egg, milk, and wheat. Plus, they’re made in a facility where dairy, eggs, gluten, peanuts, sesame, shellfish, soy, tree nuts, and wheat are present.
