It’s time to make some noise!
Make Music New York will present concerts around New York City – including ones in Astoria, Corona, Jackson Heights, Long Island City, and Sunnyside – on Friday, June 21.
Head to the Shore Boulevard Open Street in Astoria Park for 100 Musicians for Peace & Unity from noon to 4 pm. This is an improv jam led by Matt Lavelle and his 12 Houses ensemble. They’re currently recruiting talent to share the stage with them, although they plan to cap the number at 112. All instruments are welcome except for drums.
Meanwhile, Prinkipo Quintet will appear in Lowery Plaza (map) at 1 pm and Corona Plaza (map) at 5 pm. Hailing from Lebanon, Macedonia, and Turkey, this group specializes in songs from Turkey and the Eastern Mediterranean.
At 6 pm, Percussia will do “Essential Foods” by Frank London, “On the Street Where I Live” by Ljova, and Carlo Nicolau’s “Journey of Hope” at Gantry Plaza State Park (map). This Queens-based ensemble consists of percussion, harp, flute, and viola.
Last but no least, the RECAP Quartet and Eclectic Charango Beats spearhead Make Music at Diversity Plaza — vicinity of 37th Road, Broadway, and 74th Street — from 6 pm to 8:30 pm.
