They’ve known him as Fatboy Slim, Pizzaman, Mighty Dub Katz, Fried Funk Food, Cheeky Boy, and DJ Quentox (The OX that Rocks). Regardless of his stage name, his parties are absolute blowouts.
Take part in the Big Beat experience when the British DJ, musician, and record producer performs at Knockdown Center on Saturday, May 25, at 10 pm.
It’s actually a triumphant return for Fatboy Slim, as the prolific, multi-faceted artist — who is neither obese, nor juvenile, nor skinny — sold out the Maspeth venue for an era-defining concert in 2002.
The ticket price is $25.50 with no hidden costs. Attendees must be at least 21 years of age.
Quentin Leo Cook was born in Bromley, a town in South East Greater London, in 1963. Interested in music from an early age, he played various instruments in various projects before hitting it big with the Housemartins, an Indy group whose a cappella version of Caravan of Love made it to number one on the UK single charts in the 1980s. After the band broke up, he went on to more success in more genres — and with more alter egos. As a soloist he shot to stardom with such albums as Better Living Through Chemistry and Palookaville.
Since then, he’s performed all over the world, partnered such legends as David Byrne and Iggy Pop, and even rocked the house at the closing ceremony for the London Olympics in 2022. His trophy case includes a Grammy, several MTV Video Music Awards, a few Brit Awards, and the Guinness World Record for most top-40 hits under different names.
Knockdown Center is an arts-and-performance center at 59-19 Flushing Ave., a few steps from the Brooklyn border. (The closest subway station is the L train’s Jefferson Street stop in Brooklyn.) The 50,000-square-foot building with sky-high ceilings is big enough for several thousand patrons at the same time.
