It’s a solemn subject, but the event is meaningful.
Elmhurst Hospital hosts a special block party as part of National Suicide Prevention Week on 41st Avenue and 80th Street on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 10 am to 3 pm.
Hosted by the Elmhurst Suicide Prevention in Youth Program, this family-friendly event features live entertainment as well as lots of giveaways and fun activities. The goal is to raise awareness and foster community support for youth mental health.
Here are some highlights:
On a stage: Musical stylings by a youth DJ; live music by local bands; a variety of performers.
In booths: Information on mental health resources, suicide prevention strategies, and general health-and-wellness.
On the street: Face painting, tie-dye shirts, karate classes, and an interactive magic show booth.
Speeches: Hear from healthcare professionals in the mental health field and elected officials.
Walk: The event culminates with the second annual Suicide Prevention Walk around Elmhurst Hospital’s grounds to honor those who have been impacted by suicide.
The Elmhurst Suicide Prevention in Youth Program was established to offer comprehensive support and resources to help prevent suicide and promote wellness. Funded by a five-year grant from the NYS Office of Mental Health, the program focuses on educating parents, students, youth-serving staff, and the broader community about mental health and suicide prevention.
