Who has the smoothest moves in the borough?
Dancing with the Queens Stars is at Queens Theatre on Monday, Sept. 9, at 6 pm.
This annual fun competition involves four teams of two people—one local resident and one professional from the Queensboro Dance Festival.
Here they are.
Team Soca: Darren from carNYval Dancers and Danesia from Koeppel Hyundai
Team Jazz: Jamie from Drye/Marinaro Dance Company and Courtney from Resorts World New York City
Team Salsa: Kallie from Cucala Dance Company and Joanne from LIJ Forest Hills Northwell Health
Team Folklórico: Jazmin from Manhatitlan Mexican Folkloric Group and Lauren from YELP Queens.
Each squad creates and performs a 90-second duet. The team with the highest score from the judges – Deputy Queens Borough President Ebony Young; Gonzalo Casals, policymaker and cultural producer; and Dynasty Breaking NYC Co-Founder Stephen “Rampage” Difede — wins, but attendees can influence it via the “audience shout-out section.”
Admission runs from $50 to $100 and proceeds benefit QDF. Dinner and drinks from Queens establishments will be served, and various staycation packages will be raffled off. Plus, the Astoria-based Dynasty Breaking NYC will offer a youth breaking battle.
“It’s not your typical gala, but it’s so fun, and engaging the Queens community this way resonates so strongly with our organization’s values of holistic community building through dance,” stated QDF Founding Executive Director Karesia Batan.
Founded in 2014, QDF organizes several dozen free performances around the borough each year.
Queens Theatre is located at 14 United Nations Ave. S. in Flushing Meadows Corona Park.
