Be prepared for a long, difficult fight. All are risking their lives and serious injury, and they’ll sleep in tents and eat what they cook over a fire. Nevertheless, it’s worth it because slavery is unacceptable and the country must remain united.
Amateur actors recreate Company K of the 67th NY Infantry and Civil War Living History at Fort Totten on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 10 am to 3 pm.
Organized by the Bayside Historical Society, attendees will be able to walk in the footsteps of Union soldiers and experience what they thought, ate, and wore, and how they fought.
Attendance is free, although donations are appreciated. At the start, head to BHS’s headquarters at 208 Totten Ave. inside Fort Totten.
Based in Long Island’s Sayville, the Company K, 67th NY Historical Association consists of civilians who act out imagined roles of a regiment that was also known as the “First Long Island Volunteers.” They seek to preserve history and educate. In addition to re-enactments, these volunteers participate in parades, remembrances, and gravesite ceremonies.
