Take an enchanting trip through traditional Irish music with a few holiday-themed songs every now and then.
Kupferberg Center for the Arts presents Cherish the Ladies: A Celtic Christmas in Flushing on Saturday, Dec. 2, at 8 pm.
This all-female ensemble has played traditional Irish music for more than 40 years. But on this night, a few males are invited to join the 12-piece ensemble of musicians, singers, and step-dancers.
The performers — Joanie Madden (flute, whistles, harmony vocals), Mary Coogan (guitar), Mirella Murray (accordion), Nollaig Casey (fiddle), Kathleen Boyle and Gabriel Donohue (piano, harmony vocals), Kate Purcell (vocals and guitar), and Don Stiffe (lead vocals, guitar) — specialize in Celtic instrumentation and beautiful harmonies. This show will feature outstanding dancing by Noel Spillane, Nathan Pilatzke, and Tyler Schwarz and percussion by John Madden and Cheryl Prashker.
Tickets prices are $40 (orchestra) and $30 (balcony) with no fees.
Cherish the Ladies has a resume that includes BBC’s Best Musical Group of the Year, Top North American Celtic Group at the Irish Music Awards, and a street named in their honor on the Grand Concourse in the Bronx.
The concert is scheduled for LeFrak Concert Hall at 153-49 Reeves Ave. on the Queens College campus.
