#WeeklyColumn | Earth Day Celebration In Sunnyside Gardens Park on May 2
BY QEDC It's In Queens
It’s a community yard sale on steroids.
Sunnyside Gardens Park will host an Earth Day Celebration on Sunday, May 2, from 11 am to 3 pm.
Partly commercial, vendors will sell crafts, clothes, knickknacks, and other items. But it’s also a chance to “think globally, act locally” as Junkluggers will be there to collect, recycle, and reuse E-waste, books, clothes, and other items. And as part of the fun, a workshop on indoor (worm) composting is scheduled for 1 pm. Finally, it’s a bit of a feast, as grill masters will sell hot food and others will peddle homemade baked goods.
Attendance is free. Organizers request that attendees enter via the gate on 50th Street between 39th and Barnett avenues.
Sunnyside Gardens Park features three acres of playgrounds, sports fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, and a picnic grove. It’s a members-only, volunteer-run venue, but it opens for the public for this annual Earth Day Celebration and a few other events.
