#NewsFlash | Rockaway Hosts Parades for Sea Creatures, Landlubbers + Four-Legged Friends
BY QEDC It's In Queens
Here are two great reasons for humans, their mascots, and even mythical creatures to get in costume and head to the Peninsula.
Scheduled to kick off from Beach 105th Street at 1 pm, the free Poseidon procession attracts a healthy number of floats, mermaids, sailors, and other glittery sea critters. They strut their risqué stuff down the boardwalk for glory, fun, self-expression, and the chance to win an award from an illustrious panel of judges.
Then, the free Life’s a Beach after-party is at Rockaway Bazaar on Beach 97th Street at 4 pm. Disc jockeys, live performances, and special guests are anticipated.
Bask in the excitement until Sept. 24. Then, second annual Dogtoberfest starts at the Beach 108th Street Roller Rink at 11 am. (Admission is $5.97 per pooch.)
Editor’s note: Due to rain, this event was postponed until Oct. 8. See you then.
Humans and their leashed best friends will march down the boardwalk to Beach 95th Street for an after paw-ty at the new amphitheater.
Again, a distinguished panel of judges will award prizes for Best Dressed, Funniest, and Best Match.
Editor’s note: Poseidon organizers freely admit that their spectacle is inspired by Coney Island’s Mermaid Parade. However, the Rockaway ritual strives to be family-friendly with a focus is on artist expression and creativity.
