#NewsFlash | A night of angelic music and divine food

BY QEDC It's In Queens

Some diners crave great cuisine. Others prefer pleasant ambiance. Well, this event spoils them all.

M. Wells Steakhouse will present Chamber Music and Delicious Food on Tuesday, Feb. 6, at 7 pm.

For starters, professional stringers will perform the gorgeous 18th century composition Andantino by Franz Schubert. Then, guitarist Étienne Guérin, who also works as a sommelier at the Long Island City restaurant, will play songs related to the 1914 Spanish children’s tale Platero y yo on solo guitar. As a finale, the musicians will re-gather to knock out Quintet by 20th century Italian composer Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco.

While their ears devour the music, attendees will also feast on two selected glasses of wine with hors-d’œuvres of Viennese and Andalusian inspiration. The price is $75 with taxes and gratuity included.

Schubert’s Andantino runs throughout the classic 1956 movie Au Hasard Balthazar. Directed by Robert Bresson, the French film depicts a shy farm girl, Marie, and her beloved donkey, Balthazar. As she ages, Marie and Balthazar go their separate ways, but both end up suffering at the hands of the same people. (The plot is inspired by a passage from Russian writer Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s 1868-69 novel The Idiot.)

Meanwhile, Platero y yo follows an eponymous donkey with pillow soft hair that epitomizes the innocent joys of life.

Located at 43-15 Crescent St., M. Wells received a Michelin star in 2015. The neo-speakeasy is known for crystal chandeliers, red-painted red brick walls, well-dressed staffers, and excellent food, especially its raw bar, unique appetizers, and anything from the wood-burning grill.

This concert is co-presented by M. Wells and Sympho, a group of talented young musicians, many of whom are recent graduates of Julliard and other top-notch local music schools, who seek to bring new twists to old works.

The night’s performers are Amanda Lo and Igor Pikayzen on violin, Will Curry on viola, Caleb van der Swaagh on cello, and the previously mentioned Guérin on guitar.
