#Newsflash | Local Crafters Present Beer-and-Chocolate Pairing on Friday

BY QEDC It's In Queens

Peanut butter and jelly make a great combination. Ditto for bacon with eggs and burgers with fries. But nothing beats Queens-conceived beer with chocolate created in the same wonderful borough.

Alewife Brewing and Milène Jardine Chocolatier will join forces to present The Royal Pairings on Friday, Feb. 26, at 7 pm.

That’s enough dilly-dallying, let’s get to the combos:

  • Thousand Stars (Pilsner) and Hibiscus Mint Truffle. The clean, crisp nature of this German-style pale lager and its smooth, grainy-sweet maltiness are complemented by the refreshing hibiscus and mint.
  • Death to Ego (India Pale Ale) and Ginger Turmeric Black Pepper. The aromatic and bitter hops are accentuated by the ginger and spices in the chocolate. The double dry-hopped IPA is brewed with copious amounts of Azacca, Centennial, and El Dorado hops which create a romantic melody of flavor with notes of such tropical fruits as apricot, mango, and pineapple.
  • Frau Holle (Dark Lager) and Shiro Miso Truffle. Frau Holle pours black with a solid malt backbone accompanied by subtle notes of chocolate, herb, spice, and coffee. The toasted barley complements the savory miso. The beer’s rich notes of chocolate and coffee are enhanced by the miso’s salty accents.
  • They Mostly Come at Night…Mostly (Imperial Stout) and Dark Chocolate Truffle. The dark stout – which is brewed with cinnamon, crushed red pepper, and Sigmunds pretzels — is balanced with the rich, classic dark chocolate truffle.

This unique event is virtual, thanks to Queens Yelp, and participants must order the products beforehand. The price is $34 per bundle with delivery and pick-up options.

Alewife was a Long Island City-based bar and brewpub before moving its entire operation to Sunnyside this past summer. The company now runs a brewery and tap room from a roughly 10,000-square-foot facility at 41-11 39th St. (The tap room is open right now with heated outdoor seating.)

After 12 years as a product director with Macy’s, Milène Jardine founded her cocoa-based company in 2016. Working from the Entrepreneur Space kitchen incubator in Long Island City, she makes high quality, artisanal chocolates with a wide array of ingredients, including black plum, fig, goat cheese, green tea, licorice, passion fruit, and salted chili.
