Some deals are big. Others are sweet. Still more are fantastic. This one combines all three.
Jamaica-based Queens Centers for Progress has joined forces with MumsKitchens NYC to create the Crumb Club.
Anybody can join. There’s a monthly fee that helps QCP provide safety equipment to the nonprofit’s staffers who are providing round-the-clock care to people with developmental and physical disabilities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In exchange, MumsKitchens bakes sweet treats and ships them to members once a month.
There are a few participation levels. (Gift certificates are available.)
- Pay $35 for The Snack Pack and receive four samples each month.
- Pay $50 for The Smart Cookie and get 12 samples per month.
- Pay $100 for The Sweet Life and enjoy 12 cookies and three brownies a month.
St. Albans resident Tress Walker, who was born in Barbados, is one of the matriarchs who form MumsKitchens, whose name pays homage to her procreator, aunts, and heritage. They make a wide variety of Caribbean cuisine with a signature savory dish featuring Grand Mama’s recipe for codfish balls with a mango-pineapple dipping sauce created by Walker’s generation.
The dessert menu includes coconut raisin breads and brownies made with chocolate, tropical fruits and liqueurs. Walker is a regular vendor at the Queens Night Market, PopUp NY, Hester Street Fair, and New York Wine Events when there’s no pandemic.
Editor’s note: MumsKitchens uses a facility that also manufactures products that might contain eggs, gluten, milk, tree nuts, wheat, and other known food allergens.
