#InTheLoop | Watch ‘Movies In Your Car’ in York College’s Parking Lot
BY QEDC It's In Queens
The summer is only half over, but Queen Latifah, Chris Rock, Sonic The Hedgehog, and various Transformers have already visited Jamaica. Some will return.
Bounce Playground is currently presenting “Movies In Your Car” in the parking lot at York College’s Milton G. Bassin Performing Arts Center at 94-45 Guy R. Brewer Blvd. True to its name, the program involves watching a diverse array of films – from thrillers to family-friendly to romantic – on a giant inflatable screen while in an auto.
Live activities such as concerts, comedy shows, and a drive-in photo booth are also in the mix.
Set to run until Sept. 27, showtimes vary, but most are between 8 pm and 11 pm. The focus is on African-American films, and such blockbusters as “Girls Trip,” “Harlem Nights,” and “Trolls” have already shown. The schedule is being announced as it rolls out. Here’s the remaining schedule, although there’s more to come.
Aug. 29, Transformers, 8:45 pm. A teen helps transforming alien robots defend Earth from invading enemies in this 2007 animation.
Aug. 29, Shottas, 10:30 pm. Drive in and watch this 2002 movie about crime connected to selling drugs and extortion that includes a tale about friendship and going to a new country as part of the new Movies In Your Car series at York College Milton G. Bassin Performing Arts Center, 94-45 Guy R. Brewer Blvd.
Per-car pricing varies. Tickets are contactless. Pre-order meals are contactless, too. Via the website, attendees can order everything from popcorn (of course) to burgers and cocktails.
“This event allows family and friends to experience a retro movie experience in a safe and fun atmosphere during trying times of the COVID-19 pandemic,” stated Chris Worthy, the CEO at Bounce, a minority-owned business that recently created an inflatable, travelling amusement park.
Event partners include Beam Suntory’s Maker’s Mark, Courvoisier, Curls Beauty Brands, Czen Restaurant, Happy Face Photo Booths, Hornitos Tequila, and Red Bull.
Editor’s note: MIYC employees follow Centers for Disease Control guidelines for social distancing to avoid the spread of COVID-19. They wear masks and gloves and use on-site hand-sanitizing stations.
