Creative, talented designers have been setting up shop in Western Queens for years. They specialize in everything from furniture to robots.
Learn more during Open Studio Crawls: Long Island City on Friday, May 13, from 4 pm to 6:30 pm.
NYCxDESIGN, a nonprofit that promotes the Big Apple’s creative community, will organize a guided walking tour with chances to explore studios, meet professionals, and revel in some of the secrets behind their craft.
Here are the participating studios.
Stickbulb by Rux: Stickbulb uses reclaimed and sustainably sourced woods to create beautiful works of light.
Krypton Neon: A neon studio for Broadway stage productions, Hollywood films, and more.
Eventscape: A custom fabrication firm equipped with advanced robotics, manufacturing, and full fabrication facilities.
The Up Studio: A full-service architecture, interior, and brand design studio.
General admission is $20. Ticket holders will receive an email from NYCxDESIGN one week prior to the tour date with the meeting location and additional details. They will also receive a complimentary NYCxDESIGN tote bag.
Open Studio Crawls is a citywide program. NYCxDESIGN will also present tours in Brooklyn Navy Yard, Flatiron, and Red Hook.

Red Hook (Thursday, May 12, 4 pm to 6:30 pm)
OTTRA: Ottra creates sculptural, solid wood furniture in a waterside shop.
Liberty Labs Foundation: The work home to 17 members who employ a hybrid approach to wood and metal working.
DLV Designs: Designer/producer of handmade, luxury furniture and stylish, high-quality hardware.
Token: A studio that engages forms and luxury materials.
Brightbound: Lighting products that represent the future of contemporary design, craftsmanship, and innovation.
Brooklyn Navy Yard (Saturday, May 14, 2 pm to 4:30 pm)
Virginia Sin: A handmade ceramics and home goods brand that puts the fun into the functional.
Terreform ONE: A nonprofit that aims to combat the extinction of all planetary species through innovative acts of design.
Bednark: A full-service design and fabrication company.
HUSH: A global experience design agency.
Flatiron (Thursday, May 19, 4 pm to 6:30 pm)
ICRAVE: An award-winning design and brand strategy and experience, interior and lighting design firm.
Flatiron Building: An exclusive opportunity to get inside this iconic New York landmark and explore hidden architectural gems.
Center for Book Arts: Dedicated to uplifting and furthering the book arts. See letterpress printing in action and more.
Architecture + Information: A strategy-led, integrated design agency that builds more than architecture.
There’s a closing reception at the Kohler Experience Center by Best Plumbing Supply from 6 pm to 8 pm.
