#InTheLoop | New Queens program offers online Shakespeare
When the going gets tough, the tough gets going…especially creative types in Queens!
Titan Theatre Company, a Woodside-based troupe that is an artist-in-residence at Queens Theatre, has just joined forces with Artisan N.Y. Productions to offer “Shakespeare Online,” a brand new program that supports artists and educators who are stifled by COVID-19.
A play on Titan’s “Shakespeare on Demand” program that provides NYC schools with free live performances of the Bard of Avon’s plays, the new “Shakespeare Online” is designed to provide a similar experience via software. Titan will provide recorded staged readings of Shakespeare’s most popular plays, as well as live online talkbacks with cast members, online curriculum, study guides, and master classes.
Artistic Director Lenny Banovez lamented that 25 Titan actors are now out of work and about 1,000 young people will not be able to see live Shakespeare this spring because he had to postpone his productions and outreach programs. Nevertheless, he stressed the positive: “It is my hope that [“Shakespeare Online”] will help provide quality online programming for teachers and paid gigs for theatre artists.”
Titan is currently holding registration with the hope to launch “Shakespeare Online” for teachers by early April. For more information, contact Artistic Associate Wesley Cady at firstname.lastname@example.org or 718.715.5369.
