#InTheLoop | It’s Hot, but the End of Summer Bash Is on Aug. 20
BY QEDC It's In Queens
It’s not going to be hot and humid forever.
The Shops at Skyview will host an End of Summer Bash on Saturday, Aug. 20, from 2 pm to 5 pm.
A Bubble Tea DIY with Gong Cha is a main event, and participants will receive a free mini shaker and apron set from the restaurant. Face painting, balloon animals, a 360-degree photo booth, a live DJ, and a clown are also planned.
It’s not all fun and games, though. Visitors will be able to donate school supplies by dropping them in vibrant yellow lockers near Skyview’s entrance. They’ll also be able to swap and/or donate children’s books with the Long Island-based nonprofit Book Fairies on Level 4. At two separate times, Queens Public Library’s Flushing branch will host children’s reading sessions.
Here’s the activity schedule:
2:30 pm to 3:30 pm: Bubble Tea DIY
3:30 pm to 4 pm: Book reading for youngsters age 2-5
4 pm to 4:30 pm: Book reading for youngsters age 6-12
And here’s more information on the school supply drive, which is ongoing until Aug. 31.
Suggested items include backpacks, children’s books, colored pencils and markers (8-12 count), composition books (wide-ruled), construction paper, crayons, dry erase makers, erasers (wedge), flip chart markers, glue sticks, highlighters, pencils, scotch tape, student dry erase boards (small), and student headphones/earbuds.
The Load the Lockers initiative and Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr.’s Office are working together to make sure the donations benefit local public schools and foundations, including Book Fairies, P.S. 52 in Jamaica, and Richmond Hill-based River Fund.
Located at 40-24 College Point Blvd. in Flushing, Skyview is a multi-level, multi-purpose shopping center with international brands such as Target and Marshalls along with locals ones like Gong Cha and Royal Beauty.
