#InTheLoop | Five Days of Sushi, Sake, Jazz + Bargains
BY QEDC It's In Queens
What’s the Japanese word for “delicious and affordable”?
The Jackson Heights restaurant Sushi On Me will offer great prices on seafood, sake, and live jazz from Monday, May 17, to Saturday, May 22.
Chef Atip “Palm” Tangjantuk, a Thai sushi master, will spotlight three seasonal favorites — hotaru ika (Japanese firefly squid); katsuno bonito (smoked, fermented tuna); and kama o toro (fatty tuna neck) — as part of a 15-course meal deal for $125.
Kama o-toro is often consumed with tangy soy ponzu, but Chef Palm uses tamarind sauce. The Katsuno bonito will be served with crispy, recently torched skin and seasoned chili garlic crisp, ponzu, and truffle salt. Diners can also expect smoked king salmon in a cloud of rosemary smoke.
The sake options are Dassai 45, Sho-Une Junmai Dai Ginjo, and Nanbu-Bijin Junmai, as curated by beverage director Siwapong Kalchansupan, along with Sunset on 3rd Street, a welcome cocktail consisting of Taru sake, Casamigos tequila, St. Germain elderflower liqueur, lime juice, and shiso.
Pen Parn, who has sung at The Cupping Cafe and Le Song, will belt out the jazz tunes with Kengchakaj, who has played piano at Zinc Bar and Gramercy Theater, and Julphan Tilapornputt, who has rocked his guitar with legendary Thai saxophonist Tewan Supsanyakorn.
Sushi On Me is located at 71-26 Roosevelt Ave. One-hour seatings are scheduled for 8 pm and 9:30 pm each night.
