Great Theater

Queens is a Drama Queen!

Some great plays are about to begin. First up is A View from the Bridge from May 1 to May 18.

Douglaston Community Theatre presents this 1965 Arthur Miller work about betrayal, tragedy, obsession, and corruption with Brooklyn dockworkers, Italian immigrants, and a beautiful niece in the mix.

Ticket prices are $22 for adults, but $20 for students and seniors. Shows are May 1 at 8 pm; May 2 at 8 pm; May 9 at 8 pm; May 10 at 2 pm; May 10 at 8 pm; May 17 at 8 pm; and May 18 at 2 pm. They take place at Zion Church Community Hall at 243-20 Church St. in Douglaston.

Meanwhile, Thalia Spanish Theatre offers Tres Espermatozoides in Spanish with English supertitles from May 2 to May 18.

This work, by respected Spanish playwright Juan Carlos Rubio, takes a humorous look at the challenges modern women face. Rocío, Ángela, and Carlota were best friends in school, but they haven’t seen each other in years. They get together for a reunion and the conversation gravitates toward their loneliness and frustration due the fact that none is a mother. What if they all got pregnant by the same man and formed their own family?

General admission is $40, but students and retirees can attend for $35. Special group prices exist, too. Shows are at 8 pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and Sundays at 4 pm.

Thalia, whose performance space has about 75 seats, is located at 41-17 Greenpoint Ave. in Sunnyside.
