#InTheLoop | The Sixth Annual Rockaway Film Festival Starts on Aug. 19

Head to the peninsula for sun, sand…and premieres, repertory screenings, and live art.

The Rockaway Film Festival runs from Saturday, Aug. 19, to Sunday, Aug. 27.

The sixth annual extravaganza has a diverse lineup, ranging from Hollywood classics to award-winning documentaries to independent pieces done on shoestring budgets. Plus, the fun includes appearances by filmmakers, artists, curators, and musicians.

Don’t forget the ventriloquist.

The movies will screen at Arverne Cinema, an outdoor theater at Beach 72nd Street constructed with pieces from the boardwalk that were destroyed during Hurricane Sandy in 2012, and the Rockaway Artists Alliance headquarters at Building T149 in Fort Tilden.

No event costs more than $10, and an all-inclusive pass is $75.

“Our festival emerged from a deep love for the communal ritual of watching movies,” Co-founders Sam Fleischner and Courtney Muller state in a release. “Nothing compares to the experience of gathering silently in the dark with friends and strangers, to be unified by a shared source of sight and sound. This year’s lineup is vast and eclectic, and marks another year in our endeavor to bring cinema back to Rockaway, which had been without a movie theater for more than twenty years.”
