#InTheLoop | Sunnyside Play Explores What Women Do Better Than Men

It’s back by popular demand…or really “de vuelta por petición popular.”

Thalia Spanish Theatre presents Las Mujeres Lo Hacemos Mejor Que Los Hombres (Women Do It Better Than Men) from Friday, March 1, to Sunday, March 24.

In Spanish with English supertitles, this comedic play follows the monologue of a psychologist who has a sexual awakening while leading a workshop on professional growth. A few hilarious stanzas about male-female relationships later, and she’s ready to find love after age 50.

General admission is $35, but students and seniors can attend for $32. Special group rates are available, too.

Soledad Lopez, who was born in Spain’s Avila, plays the lead role. She has starred in many shows at Thalia, including a version of this same piece in 2020. Over a multi-decade career that includes film, television, webseries, and stage work, she’s won best actress awards from HOLA, ATI, and ACE. Since 2000, she’s had a steady gig at Thalia, leading a bilingual drama program and other activities.

Las Mujeres Lo Hacemos Mejor will hit the stage on Fridays at 8 pm, Saturdays at 3 pm and 8 pm, and Sundays at 4 pm during this run.

Lopez’s husband and fellow countryman, Angel Gil Orrios, is the producer, designer, and director of this play. He’s also Thalia’s artistic director.

The script was written by Roberto Ramos Perea, a Puerto Rico native who has created more than 100 plays. He’s also worked as a reporter, columnist, critic, director, historian, author, and arts administrator.

Located at 41-17 Greenpoint Ave., Thalia has space for about 75 attendees per show. The bilingual theater was founded by Cuban actress/director Silvia Brito in 1977.

The Answer

The title of this play is audacious, but it is true?

The About Life And Love website displays 20 Things Women Do More And Better Than Men. The post claims that the fairer sex excells over males in taste, smell, multi-tasking, longevity, IQ, investment, job interviews, and communication.
