Barbie was the breakout movie last summer, enticing fashionistas of all ages to put on something pink and head to the theaters.
It’s 2024 now, but Barbie, Ken, and their plastic paradise will hit a huge screen in the Hunter’s Point South Park Oval in Long Island City on Saturday, June 22, at around 9 pm.
A free party starts near the Frank Ottomanelli’s by the Water concession at 6:30 pm. Attendees can smile and pose at a Barbie photobooth before showing off their style at a Barbie costume contest with individual and family divisions at 7:30 pm. As part of the fun, Ottomanelli’s will serve themed cocktails and mocktails.
CinemaLIC is back!
With Nest Seekers International as the main sponsor, this tenth annual program screens movies and organizes related events five times this year. All the movies are free, and they all start at sunset. They all have first-come-first-serve seating, too, so bring blankets!
Here’s the rest of the schedule.
July 20: Wonka
Aug. 2: Groundhog Day
Aug. 9: Clueless
Sept. 3: Aladdin
And a special Halloween bonus.
Oct. 26: The Addams Family
The huge screen is erected near the waterfront in the vicinity of Center Boulevard, 51st Avenue, and the East River.
The Vernon-Jackson station on the 7 line is the closest subway stop. NYC Ferry’s Long Island City dock is only a few feet away.
CinemaLIC’s other sponsors are Hunters Point Park Conservancy, and LIC Landing.
