“I can’t promise you it will be easy, but I can promise you it will be worth it.”
The Museum of the Moving Image unveils Mission Impossible: Story and Spectacle on Friday, April 18.
On time for the Memorial Day Weekend release of the eighth MI film, The Final Reckoning, this exhibition spotlights the Paramount Pictures franchise’s stunt and action sequences with behind-the-scenes content and production artifacts.
Story and Spectacle, which is on display until Dec. 14, is divided into sections. Each one focuses on the corresponding film’s key stunt or action sequences.
Access is included with general admission tickets, which run from $10 to $20.
The MI series consists of seven – soon to be eight – high-action spy thrillers based on the eponymous 1966 TV series. Tom Cruise stars as Ethan Hunt who thwarts would-be assassins bent on destroying the world with help from his crack team and super cool gadgets.
“For almost 30 years, MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE films have thrilled audiences with suspenseful stories and unparalleled practical stunts,” stated Deputy Director for Curatorial Affairs Barbara Miller. “MoMI is excited to partner with Paramount Pictures on this major exhibition to explore the series’ unique achievements and create a fun, illuminating experience for fans and visitors.”
MoMI is located at 36-01 35th Ave. in Astoria’s Kaufman Arts District.
