First, we party. Then, we hang out where we partied.
The Open Worlds kick off is at Museum of the Moving Image on Saturday, May 18, starting at 4 pm.
The five-hour ribbon-cutting ceremony includes music from DJ Stretch Armstrong, a VR demo in the Fox Amphitheater, food, drinks, and Joshua Davis’s renowned sound-responsive video installation “V01D” projected on the Schlosser Media Wall.
Attendance is free, and registration is not required.
In short, Open Worlds is a free community center in MoMI’s first floor lobby and courtyard. An estimated 15,500 square feet in total, the climate-controlled venue has WiFi, a green space, and a new concession offering wine, beer, and food from local businesses.
To operate during regular museum hours through October, programs include artist talks, live music, professional development panels, and trivia events.
“With Open Worlds we’re removing yet another barrier to entry—cost—and ensuring that we have a place where all New Yorkers can experiment with cutting-edge technology, collaborate, create, and recharge their creative energies,” stated MoMI Executive Director Aziz Isham.
MoMI is located at 36-01 35th Ave. in Astoria’s Kaufman Arts District.
