#InTheLoop | LaGuardia Airport Conference Center Opens to the Public

Was your flight just delayed? Are you waiting to pick up a friend whose plane is circling above without clearance to land?

No problem. Now you can get some work done or relax in style.

LaGuardia Airport’s Atrium Business & Conference Center opened to the public on Oct. 19, 2023.

Adjacent to Terminal B’s Departures Level, the 65,000-sq-ft venue includes conference rooms, business center services, and several new lounges. Thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows, one side has views of the Manhattan skyline, while another looks onto LaGuardia’s runways.

Plus, the Atrium is programmed and operated by MCR, the award-winning hotelier that oversees a similar, 50,000-sq-ft center at John F. Kennedy International Airport.

“We welcome the public to grab a glass of wine or coffee in the Atrium,” stated MCR CEO and Chair Tyler Morse.”

Then there’s Richard Lippold’s Orpheus and Apollo, which is on display there. Commissioned by Lincoln Center in 1961, the five-ton space sculpture consists of thin stainless steel cables and several dozen sheets of copper alloy. Two forms reach to each other, but they don’t touch.

Orpheus and Apollo had been on view in the Grand Promenade at Lincoln Center’s Philharmonic Hall from 1962 until 2014, when it was removed during the reconstruction of what is now David Geffen Hall. It was out of the public view until now.

“Rather than being stored away in crates for an indeterminable amount of time, Richard Lippold’s wonderous sculpture has been fully restored and will now make its second debut at LaGuardia Airport,” stated Port Authority Chairman Kevin O’Toole.
