Timed to coincide with Climate Week NYC, the New York Hall of Science will host the Stemocracy Festival from Sunday, Sept. 22, to Saturday, Sept. 28.
The inaugural event features an immersive rainforest experience, discussions with Rainforest Partnership Herpatologist Pablo Venegas, Atlanta Hip Hop duo EarthGang (Olu and WowGr8), and the launch of Hydroponic Gardens Towers. The goal is to educate on climate change and how communities, NGOs, and government agencies can address related issues.
General admission is $22 per day, but children, students, and seniors can attend for $19. Some events are free as listed below.
Sept. 22, Opening Day
1 pm: People Powered Climate Change Community Panel
2 pm: Mini Queens Food Hall with free samples for visitors (while supplies last)
3 pm: Films for the Forest Premiere Party
Sept. 24, Arts + STEM = Environmental Justice Power (Free, reserve here)
3 pm: Launch Party of Immersive Rainforest Installation in the Viscusi Gallery
4 pm: EarthGang visit with conversations about community gardening and making a difference
5 pm: A Conversation with EarthGang
6 pm: Screening of Films for the Forest followed by a light reception

5 pm: Garden Celebration
Sept. 28: Closing Day (Free Admission from 4 pm to 10 pm)
10 am: NYSCI Community Birthday Party Celebration
4 pm: Queens Borough President’s Office Climate Expo
5:30 pm: Launch of Hydroponic Garden Towers in conjunction with NY Sun Works and Borough President Donovan Richards Jr. NY Sun Works will run a hands-on workshop on upcycling waterbottles and hydroponic gardens.
5 pm to 10 pm (bonus): The museum stays open for the Queens Night Market crowd with activities like silent disco and bingo.
The New York Hall of Science is located at 47-01 111th St. at the western edge of Flushing Meadows Corona Park. The campus includes a large parking lot and the 7 train’s 111th Street subway station is about four blocks to the north.
