In Queens, it should be “St. Patrick’s Month,” as the fun certainly lasts more than a day.
Two parades have already taken place – Sunnyside and Rockaway – with another big one in Bayside on March 29. And the Queens Chamber of Commerce’s annual luncheon was on March 12. (Gotta love green ice cream!)
As we head to the actual St. Paddy’s on Monday, March 17, here is a list of great borough bars to get into the spirit. Plus, descriptions of two remaining events follow.
Queens County Farm Museum serves Two Feasts on Friday, March 14, and Saturday, March 15.
These unique dining experiences blend traditional colonial cuisine with modern Irish-American favorites. Every bite tells a story.
The menu, starting time (7:30 pm), and price ($95) are the same on both nights, but Friday includes bagpiping, while Saturday features fiddling. Here it goes.
Course 1: Freshly Baked Irish Soda Bread with Churned Butter
Course 2: Stout Beef Stew
Course 3: Bacon, Colcannon, Corned Beef, Cabbage
Course 4: Traditional Apple Cake
Stout, Irish whiskey, and wine will be available for purchase – cash only – while sparkling apple cider will be poured at no additional cost.
Queens Farm’s entrance is 73-50 Little Neck Parkway in Floral Park. There’s free parking on site.
Then on St. Patrick’s Day (March 17), the New York Irish Center hosts 40 Shades of Green.
To start at 3 pm, this cultural cavalcade features six hours of local and international performers and personalities.
Trisha McManus & the McManus School of Irish Dance spearhead the show along with Bronagh and Bob Batch, Connor Delves, Darrah Carr Dance, Donie Carroll & Mo O’Connor, Fiona Walsh, Gigi Eugenie, JigGig, John McDermott, Lowri Davies, Madalyn Monaghan, Mollie Downes, Sinéad O’Brien, Susan McKeown, Tara O’Grady & Sean Brennan, and Tim Connell.
General admission is $35. The center is at 10-40 Jackson Ave. in Long Island City.
