#InTheLoop | Five Queens Landmarks Participate in Sacred Sites Open House this Weekend

Five Queens landmarks are among several dozen others around New York State that will welcome visitors during the Sacred Sites Open House this weekend.

Spearheaded by the New York Landmarks Conservancy, this 15th annual extravaganza gets individuals to explore architecture, art, and history while learning about the Empire State’s diverse houses of worship. Some venues will offer lectures, live music, and refreshments.

Information on the Queens participants and their programs follows.

All Saints Episcopal Church (85-45 96th St., Woodhaven, 1928, Rural English Gothic)
Self-guided tours on May 17 and May 18 from 1 pm to 4 pm.

Bowne House Historical Society (37-01 Bowne St., Flushing, circa 1666, Anglo-Dutch Vernacular Residential)
Self-guided tours on May 17 from noon to 3 pm.

Church of the Resurrection (85-09 118th St., Kew Gardens/Richmond Hill, 1904, French Gothic-Tudor Revival)
Self-guided tours on May 17 from noon to 3 pm.

Grace Episcopal Church (155-15 Jamaica Ave., Jamaica, 1862, Early English Gothic)
Guided tours with light refreshments on May 17 from noon to 2 pm.

St. George’s Episcopal Church (14-22 27th Ave., Astoria, 1903, Gothic)
Guided and self-guided tours along with special demonstrations on the house organ’s power and beauty on May 17 from 10 am to 2 pm.

The New York Landmarks Conservancy leads efforts to preserve and protect New York City’s architectural legacy. Since its founding in 1973, the nonprofit has loaned and granted more than $62 million, which has leveraged almost $1 billion in restoration projects.
