The first version of Footloose was a 1984 musical-drama featuring an eponymous title track by Kenny Loggins and super star Kevin Bacon as a Chicago teen who moves to a small town where he tries to overturn a ban on dancing.
The latest version – and Queens enthusiasts might say the best one – is a play that runs at Rockaway Theatre Company from Friday, July 26, to Sunday, Aug. 11.
Concord Theatricals, a company that regularly does works by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Rogers & Hammerstein, and other playwrights, presents the musical.
Ticket prices are $25, but seniors and children can enter for $20.
The 8 pm shows are on July 26, 27, and Aug. 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, and 10. The 2 pm shows are on July 28 and Aug. 4 and 11.
Founded in 1997, Rockaway Theatre Company presents plays intermittently throughout the year, usually musicals, comedies, and dramas. The shows go on in a renovated theater that was once a cinema for United States Army personnel at Fort Tilden.
The address is Fort Tilden’s Post Theatre (Building T4) in Breezy Point.
