LOVE AFRICAN AMERICAN STYLE
Written and Performed by Marc L Abbott
In Love African American Style, Marc L Abbott takes you on a funny and moving journey as he tries to find the one person in the world to share his life and fall in love with. At times its euphoric. Other times downright cruel and just when he thinks he has it figured out, the unexpected happens. Find out how falling in love is easy but getting it to consistently stick around can be a whole lot of work.

Puppetry artist Spica Wobbe interviewed her mom and transformed the interview and her childhood memories into shadows. The image of a mother holding her daughter’s hand conveys how the previous generation took care of the next generation. Through shadow, light, music and storytelling, it also tells how her mom, a self-taught artist, Ms. Shia Zhaozhi, used her paintings to document her life stories growing up in Taipei, Taiwan. Participants will have a chance to create their own story and bring it to life with shadows puppetry. Follow the performance, there will be a storytelling workshop and a shadow theater workshop.
Ages 10 and up
No previous storytelling or shadow puppetry experience is necessary.

FISH OUT OF AGUA
Written and Performed by Michele Carlo
Michele Carlo grew up a double-outlier: a redheaded, freckle-faced Puerto Rican in an Italian/Irish Bronx neighborhood who was too “white” for some of her family…and a mystery to nearly everyone else. By turns heartbreaking and humorous, the personal stories of her search for identity interweave with traditional Puerto Rican folktales and unfold like a runaway subway train.
