What if you can run, walk, or stroller push all the way to Unisphere while helping youth reach their unlimited potential?  Global Kids, the nonprofit educational organization that works with students in public schools throughout NYC exposing them to global human rights issues, hosts its 5th Annual 5K Run/Walk/Push on Saturday, October 13th at Flushing Meadows Corona Park.

Approximately 300 students, alumni, staff, sponsors, and corporate partners join us for a fun, family-friendly day. Proceeds from the event benefit Global Kids’ College & Career Readiness Program which provide students with one-on-one support as they prepare for life after high school.  Through the program, students can also use various resources such as college tours, financial aid assistance, job training, internship opportunities, scholarships, and more.

Savoy! Dancing Through the Swing Era @ Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning
Nov 2 @ 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm
Savoy! Dancing Through the Swing Era @ Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning | New York | United States

Savoy! Dancing through the Swing Era takes the audience on a journey through the swing era by following its main character, Lillian Carlyle, an aspiring dancer from Hollywood. The show features authentic jazz music by Big Band greats such as Duke Ellington and Benny Goodman, vintage fashions from ‘20s, ‘30s and ‘40s, and, most importantly, the popular Lindy Hop dance. The high energy choreography includes classic movements such as swing outs, Charleston and air steps, mixed with other styles, from tap, ballroom to Russian folk dance.

Our audience will not just be a passive viewer, but an integral part of the show by dancing and singing along during our performance. At the end of the show, we will teach a historical Jazz dance called Shim Sham so that we can all perform the dance together. We believe Lindy Hop is the dance and music for everyone, and we hope that our audience will feel not only uplifted and empowered through this ebullient and powerful dance and music, but also feel connected with performers as well as with one another.
