Kick off Pride week by experiencing “1983”, the first in a new series of retro-themed dance parties called RETRO FACTORY, hosted by Theater C, Zach Job and Chad Ryan, in association with Daniel Nardicio Productions and Long Island City Artists, Inc.. “1983” pays tribute to the legendary gay dance party held at The Pyramid Club in the East Village.
With special guest DJ’s including DJ David Scott, DJ Rod Thomas (Bright Light Bright Light), along with drag queen Chelsea Piers, this party will feature mesmerizing visuals in the style of The Donkey Show and Here Lies Love along with queered live re-creations of iconic 80’s music videos choreographed by Sidney Erik Wright, Shiloh Goodin and Breton Tyner-Bryan.
80’s attire and attitude strongly encouraged. Special gifts for those that bring it!
Join Kleaver Cruz and Darnell L. Moore on his memoir ‘No Ashes In The Fire.’ From a leading organizer with the Black Lives Matter and LGBTQ movements comes a brave, beautifully wrought memoir of radical black love.
When Darnell L. Moore was fourteen years old, three boys from his Camden, NJ neighborhood tried to set him on fire. Darnell was tall and awkward and constantly bullied by those who saw him as other. That afternoon, the boys doused him with gasoline and tried lighting a match—but it was too windy. It was not the last time he would face death.
‘No Ashes In The Fire’ is a story of beauty and hope, giving voice to the rich, varied experiences of all those who survive on the edges of the margins. As he reckons with what it means to be free, Darnell charts a glorious path toward liberation.
