About the movie:
A Spanish tourist looking for adventure in Ecuador crosses paths with a cynical student and a man seeking to come to terms with the recent death of his grandmother in director Tania Hermida’s understated tale of love, friendship, and the journey to gain a better understanding of who we really are. Esperanza is a Spanish tourist who longs to experience life and explore new worlds. Pessimistic Ecuadorian university student Tristeza is tired of her picturesque South American country, and can’t shake the feeling that the outside world is calling to her. After being stranded in the baron countryside due to a transit strike, Esperanza, and Tristeza attempt to hitch a ride back to civilization. Their journey soon takes an unexpected turn, however, when the pair makes the acquaintance of a man transporting the ashes of his dearly departed grandmother. Now, as mortality and compassion factor into the soul-searching trek, the two girls are soon prompted to reevaluate their expectations regarding their current quest for fulfillment. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
