Just as sturdy scaffolding is needed when building a structure that then comes down once the structure is stable and built, good parenting provides children with steady, warm, emotional nourishment on the path toward independence. Never-ending parental problem-solving and involvement can have the opposite effect, enabling fragility and anxiety over time. World-renowned child psychiatrist Harold Koplewicz will explain how to prevent and counteract the anxiety and emotional fragility prevalent in children and teenagers today, introducing a new parenting philosophy and strategies that give children the tools to flourish on their own.

Join the Environmental Stewardship Team on Saturday, October 16th for our Fall Kickoff event at Meadow Lake!
While FMCP is home to many native species, invasive plants threaten the growth and development of our wetland environment by decreasing the biodiversity of our native birds, fish, animals, and insects due to less sources of familiar food and shelter being available. As we remove the invasive plants, we make room for native species to recover and thrive, along with beatifying the park.
Take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city by coming to our green haven to clear our gardens and your minds as we restore key park areas to their rightful condition. We welcome people of all ages and all help will be greatly appreciated. No experience necessary!
Join the Littoral Society for a special program including LIVE raptors.
Participants will visit the refuge pond areas as well as Fort Tilden’s 195th Street beach to look for migrating Sharpshinned and Cooper’s Hawks, Peregrine Falcons, Northern Harriers, Kestrels, Merlins, and maybe a Bald Eagle or two. Lots of passerines should be migrating along the coastal barrier island as well.

Comedian/visual artisté Symin Adive (The Onion, UCB) showcases various artists that are definitely not all her in different wigs. The artists discuss what else but themselves and also their art, which is an extension of themselves! Speaking of talking about themselves…Symin is a headline writer for The Onion and an Art Director/Illustrator/Designer/hyphenate hoarder extraordinaire. Will Symin have an existential meltdown about the inextricable meld of art and capitalism? Most definitely. Nevertheless, she is excited to present this 98% solo sketch comedy show that she has lovingly written/directed/performed/edited/produced/catered within a span of two months. Being 98% solo is also how Symin survived the pandemic!
