Long Island City Partnership’s signature community celebration returns for its 8th annual year—but with a twist! This year LIC Springs to Summer! will be a series of events, promotions, and performances throughout Long Island City from your favorite LIC businesses, organizations, and cultural institutions beginning Monday, June 14th and going through Sunday, June 20th.

As a part of the event, we are creating a LIC Passport to showcase everything LIC has to offer, not just today, but every day of the year. These passports will include all the events and promotions in the neighborhood that can be redeemed during the week-long program, ranging from intimate concerts to exclusive dinner deals! We will distribute the passports leading up to and during the week of the event through multiple pick-up locations in the neighborhood.

Join Latimer House for a unique multigenerational Juneteenth program led by artist Tasha Dougé!

Lewis Latimer’s invention of the carbon filament will serve as a metaphor and a tool to illuminate the contributions of African Americans in the pursuit of liberation. Participants will use symbols and iconography to create paper cutouts exploring themes of freedom and liberation to engage with the history of Juneteenth. In this program, participants will be encouraged to actively participate in the discourse around Juneteenth, and how art and symbolism can be used as entry points to explore and celebrate resilience, resistance, and emancipation.

Join Jocelyn Perez of Herban Garden as we take a deep dive into the world of Mugwort (Artemesia Vulgaris). Mugwort is a plant that has garnered quite a reputation as a magical herb and has been believed to have a deep connection with the human psyche. In this workshop, we will explore Mugwort’s ecology, traditional uses, and associated herbal folklore. We will also touch upon its “invasive” status here in New York City, and ways we can mitigate its spread and use them in helpful ways. Zoom link will be emailed upon registration.
