A new Texas-style restaurant that specializes in smoked, marinated BBQ has opened in Queens…And it’s kosher.
Chief Smokehouse is selling brisket, lamb roast, pulled beef, marinated grilled chicken, and other pit specialties at 180-10 Union Turnpike in Fresh Meadows.
Kosher-certified by the Vaad Harabonim of Queens and serving Bet Yosef meats, the new spot has already drawn raves for authentic house-made flavors, tender meats, attentive staff, and good music.
The Half-Pound Brisket is one of the most popular menu items. It includes 21-hour smoked and rested meat for $36. Other favorites include Meat Lover ($34), which mixes pulled brisket, beef bacon, crispy onions, mozzarella, pepperoni, and honey mustard, and Grilled Chicken ($31), which impresses with tzatziki, pickled onion, lettuce, tomato, and aioli.
Various kinds of wood-fired flatbreads, tacos, sandwiches, and burgers fill out the large menu.
Don’t head there during shabbat, but Sunday specials include Smoked Lamb Rack ($244), which includes two sides, bread, pickled onions, pickles, and eight whole smoked lamb chops, and Chief’s Hammer ($104), which pairs marinated, smoked, and tender beef shank on the bone with two sides, bread, pickled onions, and pickles.
Cheesecake and chocolate lava cake are on the dessert menu, but we suggest the Cinnamon Roll ($19), which is topped with mocha ice cream.
Chief Smokehouse is open on Sunday from 1 pm to 11:30 pm and Saturdays from 7:30 pm to 11:30 pm. During the week, it operates Monday through Thursday from 1 pm to 4:30 pm and 6 pm to 11:30 pm.
