Here’s a great way to celebrate St. Patrick and Ireland’s only female patron saint, Brigid.
Irish-American supergroup Cherish the Ladies perform at LeFrak Concert Hall in Queens College on Sunday, March 9, at 3 pm.
The Grammy-nominated troupe gave a sold-out performance at LeFrak in 2023. Now they’re back to dazzle the audience with their vocals, step dancing, and Trad-themed music.
Ticket are $45 for orchestra and $35 for balcony (no fees).
Founded as part as the rise of women in what had been the male-dominated Irish music scene, Cherish the Ladies has been around for 39 years…and counting. They have toured the world, recorded 18 albums, and filmed the Emmy-winning PBS program An Irish Homecoming.
The group’s leader is NEA National Heritage Award Winner Joanie Madden, a champion flute and whistle player. Other members are Mary Coogan (guitar), Mirella Murray (accordion), Nollaig Casey (fiddle), Kate Purcell (guitar, lead vocals), Emily Flack (piano), and the step dancers James Greenan, Noel Spillane, and Joe Harrison.
LeFrak is at the corner of the Long Island Expressway and Kissena Boulevard in Flushing. For GPS directions, the address is 153-49 Reeves Ave. and 11367. Two large parking lots are nearby.
