Are you ready for Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, The Genius, and the rest of the crew?
Wu Tang Clan is coming to Maspeth on Thursday, Aug. 10, at 8 pm.
That’s right. The master rappers from Staten Island headline the For the Love: 50 Years of Hip-Hop celebration at Knockdown Center.
Organized by Sirius XM and Pandora, the festival celebrates the genre with music and its related culture, including breakdancing, double-dutch jump-roping, and deejay spinning. Attendees can expect to see SiriusXM radio personalities, such as Mina SayWhat, as well.
For the Love also serves as a benefit for the Richmond Hill-based Boys & Girls Club of Metro Queens. The agency will accept a donation, and members will receive backpacks with school supplies.
Admission is tricky. The 21-plus event is open to SiriusXM and Pandora customers, but fans can RSVP for the chance to attend. Click here for details.
Coming out of Staten Island’s notorious Killa Hill in the 1990s, Wu-Tang Clan had hits with the songs Protect Ya Neck and C.R.E.A.M. and the albums Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) and Iron Flag. The group has had more than 10 members over the years although the most famous one, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, died in 2004.
Knockdown Center is a huge arts and performance space at 59-19 Flushing Ave. The 50,000-square-foot building with sky-high ceilings is big enough for several thousand patrons at the same time. The closest subway station is the L train’s Jefferson Street stop in Brooklyn.
