This event is a knockout.
A night of boxing is coming to Louis Armstrong Stadium on Sunday, July 12, starting at 6:10 pm.
Spearheaded by Ring Magazine III, the main fights are Newark native Shakur Stevenson defending his WBC lightweight title against William Zepeda and a super middleweight bash between Brooklyn-born Edgar Berlanga and Hamzah Sheeraz, who is British.
Ticket prices run from $70 to $280, and the arena is within the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows Corona Park. (It has a retractable roof in case of rain.)
One
Stevenson, an undefeated southpaw (23-0, 11 KOs), is an Olympic silver medalist who has been a champion in three divisions. His opponent is Mexican body puncher Zepeda (33-0, 27 KOs), who is also undefeated.
Two
Berlanga (23-1, 18 KOs)’s only professional defeat came against mega star Canelo Alvarez via decision in September. He goes head-to head with the undefeated Sheeraz (21-0-1, 17 KOs), who will move up to 168 pounds and make his super middleweight debut.
To be broadcast live on DAZN, the event’s undercard includes Alberto Puello defending his WBC junior welterweight title against Subriel Matias and David Morrell Jr. taking on Imam Khataev.
Undercard One
Puello (24-0, 10 KOs), a native of the Dominican Republic, is coming off consecutive wins over Gary Antuanne Russell and Sandor Martin. Matias (22-2, 22 KOs), who hails from Puerto Rico, is a former champion who lost his title last year to Liam Paro via decision.
Undercard Two
Cuba’s Morrell (11-1, 9 KOs) suffered his only professional career loss in February. Now he’s back to take on the undefeated Khataev (10-0, 9 KOs), who hails from Russian’s Chechnya and has momentum from a bruising decision win over Durval Elias Palacios in March.
