
Shall we (watch) dance?
Queens hosts performances of genres from Hawaii, Spain, and Argentina over the next few days.
First up is a Hula Performance at Queens Botanical Garden on Saturday, May 24, at 1 pm.
Kumu Hula ʻAuliʻi Aweau-Teves and Ka Pā Hula O Laʻakea take the audience on a journey through healing, Hawaiian history, storytelling, genealogy, and chanting with traditional and contemporary hula.
General admission is $7.29, but seniors and students can attend for $5.19 and children pay only $3.09. QBG’s main entrance is at 43-50 Main St. in Flushing. There’s an onsite parking lot.
One night of rest, then Love Flamenco is at Queens Theatre on Sunday, May 25, at 7:30 pm.
This show is a tribute to the passionate dance’s history and its birthplace, Spain. Performers honor Paco de Lucía, Camarón de la Isla, Enrique Morente, Rocío Jurado, Lola Flores, and other pioneers and legends.
Tickets run from $47 to $82. QT is located at 14 United Nations Ave. S. in Flushing Meadows Corona Park. A few public parking lots are nearby.
Then, Thalia Spanish Theatre presents the world premiere of Tango 100% from Thursday, June 5, to Sunday, June 29.
This unique show features music (Emiliano Messiez on piano, Sergio Reyes on violin, Pedro Giraudo on doublebass, and Cordeone Loïc Da Silva on bandoneon), song (Ache Ray and Sofia Tosello), and dance (Guillermina Quiroga, Mariano Logiudice, Analia Carreño, and Luis Ramirez).
Performances are Thursdays and Fridays at 8 pm, Saturdays at 3 pm and 8 pm, and Sundays at 4 pm.
General admission is $50, but students and seniors can attend for $45. Special group rates are available, and tickets are only $40 on Thursdays. TST is located at 41-17 Greenpoint Ave. in Sunnyside. There’s on-street parking.
