#InTheLoop | Lovey Dovey! Thalia Spanish Theatre Presents a Hilarious, Zany Comedy

Two single, 60-something women come across a mysterious suitcase full of dirty money.

What could go wrong? Or maybe it’s more accurate to ask: What could go right?

Thalia Spanish Theatre presents El Vuelo de las Palomas from Friday, Feb. 28, to Sunday, March 23.

In Spanish with English supertitles, this comedy, translated as “The Doves’ Flight,” stars Soledad Lopez and Kathy Tejada as the two lucky ladies whose middle class, family-less, urban lives become an unbelievable, almost schizophrenic adventure. With a healthy dose of witty dialogue and general zaniness, they become movie stars…in their own imaginations.

General admission is $40, but seniors, students, and retired individuals can attend for $35. (Bargains for large purchases are available, too.) The English shows are on Fridays at 8 pm and Saturdays at 3 pm, while the Spanish ones are on Saturdays at 8 pm and Sundays at 4 pm.

El Vuelo de las Palomas is by José Luis Alonso de Santos, whose career includes gigs as director of the Royal School of Dramatic Art of Madrid, (and Professor of Dramatic Writing), director of the National Classical Theatre Company, and president of the Academy of Performing Arts in Spain. Hector Luis Rivera is the director. Thalia Artistic/Executive Director Angel Gil Orrios (aka Lopez’s husband) is the producer and designer. Iride Lamartina-Lens provided the English translation.

Thalia, whose performance space has about 75 seats, is located at 41-17 Greenpoint Ave. in Sunnyside. There’s on-street parking.
