#In Case You Missed It | Shakespeare has double vision

Should we call him “the Bard of Queens?
William Shakespeare will be the talk of the town for the next few weeks as two of his plays unfold on local stages.
Titan Theatre Company will present Twelfth Night at Queens Theatre from March 24 through April 9. The comedy begins after a shipwreck leaves Viola with fears that her twin brother, Sebastian, is dead. She ends up in a love triangle after masquerading as a man (in Sebastian’s clothes) in order to procure a job with Duke Orsino.
Woodside-based Titan, which is an artist-in-residence at Flushing Meadows Corona Park venue for the second year in a row, strives to breathe new life into classic plays. Thus in this version, the twins are actually sisters, adding a gender bender to the fun.
All tickets are $18, and shows are on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays for three consecutive weeks.
Meanwhile in Long Island City, The Secret Theatre is set to present King Lear from March 23 through April 9. The director, Alberto Bonilla, is known for his timely twists on classic Shakespeare dramas. Using plenty of poetic license, this version transports the audience into a world of real estate titans in New York City. The king is suffering from the onset of Alzheimer’s disease as he divides his empire among his feuding children and wrestles with his mortality.
All show times are 7:30 pm, and tickets are $18 in advance, but $20 at the door. After opening night, the play will run on Wednesdays through Sundays until closing.
