#PickoftheWeek | Enjoy a Chinese banquet to welcome the Lunar New Year
BY QEDC It's In Queens
Celebrate the Year of the Rooster’s arrival with an epic Chinese feast.
The Queens Dinner Club will hold its next outing at Asian Jewels Restaurant in Flushing on Monday, Jan. 30, at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $70, and attendees should expect to eat a lot. An awful lot.
Consider the multi-course menu.
- Fortune Platter: shrimp dumpling, shiu mai, veggie spring roll, and steamed spinach dumpling;
- Good Market n Good Profit: dried oyster and pig tongue with sea moss;
- Always Happy: sautéed jumbo shrimp with garlic and pepper;
- Four Treasures Soup: dried seafood soup;
- Bull Market: stir-fried steak with mango;
- Money Tree: sautéed flounder with vegetables on a crispy fish bone;
- Lucky Open Bell: deep-fried chicken with garlic;
- Treasure Fried: Youngchow fried rice;
- Long Life Noodle: braised noodle with mushroom; and
- Always Sweet: dessert of the day and fresh fruit.
Located at 133-30 39th Ave., Asian Jewels features chandeliers, faux gold decorations, a huge dining room, and free parking. It’s known for its dim sum and its modern interpretations of classic Chinese dishes.
Queens Dinner Club, which is open to all, kicked off in April 2016 with a simple mission: to gather for a meal at a different restaurant each month and enjoy special menus at reasonable, bulk-purchase prices.
The first club “meeting” took place at Tangra Masala, an Indian-Chinese fusion restaurant in Sunnyside. Other stops included La Flor and Tito Rad’s in Woodside, Mariani Glatt in Rego Park, Phayul in Jackson Heights, Zenon Taverna in Astoria, and Mothership Meat Company in Long Island City.
