#NewsFlash | Sing and dance in two languages with a Grammy winner at Flushing Town Hall
BY QEDC It's In Queens
A Grammy-winning singer/songwriter wants to take families on a cultural journey through Latin America via language, music, and dance.
Colombia native Andrés Salguero – whose artistic name is “123 Andrés” – is a veritable rock star among the four-to-10 age group. He will perform at Flushing Town Hall on Sunday, Oct. 15, at 2:15 pm.
A natural facilitator who speaks Spanish and English, Andrés creates a bilingual open space to experience songs, movement, and play that support early learning. During the Flushing concert, families and he will groove to original and classic tunes while gaining knowledge of vocabulary in English and Spanish. Children will use their imaginations to ride an airplane to entice dancing and singing songs with newly learned words.
Attendees can expect upbeat rhythms and catchy melodies in genres such as bachata, bolero, mariachi, salsa, and vallenato.
The show also has a long-term educational component, as Andrés will provide families with strategies to expand their children’s dual language skills during an interactive arts workshop at 1 pm.
Tickets for the performance are $13 for adults and $8 for children. Meanwhile, tickets for the workshop are $7, but $4 for youngsters.
Andrés also presents workshops at national and state conferences, such as one by the California Association of Bilingual Educators. His 2016 work, Arriba Abajo, won a Latin Grammy for Best Children’s Album.
