It’s in Queens
#NewsFlash | Indian? Chinese? Caribbean? The Nest in Richmond Hill
Everybody knows about Flushing and its incredible array of top-notch Chinese restaurants. However, Queens is also blessed with countless Asian hybrid eateries, such as Peruvian-Chinese and Cuban-Chinese.
For great Caribbean-Chinese cuisine, head to The Nest at 125-17 101st Ave. in Richmond Hill.
The perfect hybrid, Boneless Jerk Chicken Fried Rice, is one of owner David Kadarnauth’s signature dishes. In fact, he can do just about everything in a fried rice combo, including Pepper Shrimp, Spicy Egg, BBQ Chicken, and Lamb Curry.
Remember: Many Caribbeans have Indian heritage, just like Kadarnauth, who is from Guyana. As such, The Nest is really Indian-Caribbean-Chinese fusion.
As such, another popular category is Bhungal, which is a powerful, flavorful cooking style with curry, cumin, coriander, chilis, and other spices. It’s pronounced “boon-jal” and has various spellings since the word has Hindi origins. The Nest offers Bhungal with Goat, Duck, Lamb, Chicken, and Pork.
The menu also has Low Meins, Chow Meins, Rotis, Stews, Sambala, Masala, Che Chi Kai, and Shark. (Yes, Shark.) Add Blood Sausage, Chicken Foot Soup, Cow Heel Soup, Sorrel, Daal, Coconut, and many, many Tropical Mixed Drinks to the mix.
