It’s a saucy-and-sparkling battle of wits…and it’s a great bargain.
Titan Theatre Company will present the Shakespeare classic Much Ado About Nothing at Queens Theatre from April 6 to April 22. Admission is $18, but ‘It’s In Queens’ readers can buy tickets for $15 with the promo code TITAN15.
Written at the end of the 16th century when the Bard of Avon was hitting mid-career, this comedy mixes romance, infidelity, treachery, plots-gone-awry, and general wackiness in Messina, a Sicilian port city. Two main characters – Benedick and Beatrice – are tricked into confessing their eternal love for each other, while a third protagonist, Claudio, rejects the true love of his life, a woman named “Hero,” after believing a lie that she had been unfaithful. The plot thickens at various times thanks to war, soldiers, Benedick’s absolute hatred of the institution of marriage, a masquerade ball, a mystery man, a sexy chambermaid, a faked death, and countless malapropisms.
Don’t worry, though, everything works out in the end. Or at least it works out well enough for the gran finale.
Much Ado will hit the stage nine times on three Fridays (April 6, 13, and 20 at 7:30 pm), three Saturdays (April 7, 14, and 21 at 7:30 pm), and three Sundays (April 8, 15, and 22 at 4 pm). The subject material is appropriate for tweens, teens, and adults.
Please note that the Early Bird special is good until April 5.
Titan is currently an artist-in-residence at Queens Theatre. The nine-year-old troupe presents modern takes on classical dramas, especially those by Shakespeare.
Queens Theatre is at 14 United Nations Ave. S. inside Flushing Meadows Corona Park.
