#NewsFlashes | A magical night of traditional music and dance
BY Michael Gillen
July 9, 2016
Get ready for an enchanting night of centuries-old choreography, music, and costumes.
The Queens-based troupe Ayazamana will perform dances from Ecuador’s three main regions – the Atlantic Coast, the Andes Mountains, and the Amazon — while wearing elaborate headdresses, colorful dresses, and even straw hats at Frank Sinatra School of the Arts in Astoria on July 9.
Sometimes, they will whirl and balance bottles on their heads. At other times, they will chant or swashbuckle with a machete. But at all times, Andes Manta, a group that uses Andean pan pipes as well as marimbas, drums, and guitars, will provide the musical accompaniment.
The fun starts at 7:45 pm at the school, which is located at 35-12 35th Avenue. Tickets cost $20 in advance or $25 at the door.
