Queens has been a major center of thoroughbred horse racing since 1667 when King Charles II of England established here the first race course in his North American Possessions. This exhibition details the history of this amazing sport in Queens from those early days 350 years ago to the present and its concomitant cultural, social and economic dimensions and impact. It relates stories of the sport’s legends–horses, jockeys, trainers, and iconic races.

The exhibition is co-located at Flushing Town Hall’s Greenroom and the Queens Historical Society.

When: Ongoing through June 30, 2018

They will learn what plants need, and why they need them. During each session they will garden in the APEC greenhouse to the “beet” of musical genres from classical to pop, from hip-hop to bebop.

A Race against Time- Spring has sprung, now the race begins. Sprouts of every kind are pushing through the soil reaching upwards to find the sunshine. Come make some planter pets of your own to take home and study. If they need any grooming just give them a buzz cut, but don’t through away the clippings!

Queens Taste 2018 @ New York Hall of Science

With delicious food, dazzling drinks, and fantastic networking in a festive atmosphere, the Queens Economic Development Corporation and the Queens Tourism Council host Queens Taste as their annual fundraiser event. In previous years, we had Astoria’s Sabor de Cuba offer shredded beef with plantains, La Adelita in Woodside give away Mexican chalupas. Alobar in Long Island City has served savory potato pierogis with a creamy sauce, The Nest, a Guyanese/Trinidadian eatery in Richmond Hill, dished out curry, jerk, and BBQ chicken, and Bayside’s Bareburger bequeathed beer-braised bacon with stout onions on a mustard pretzel bun. On the alcohol side, we had Chris Murillo, who owns the local distillery Queens Courage, various wine purveyors, at least seven beer products from various breweries, and plenty specialty cocktails. Abstainers also had options, from Essentia Water to Bruce Cost Ginger Ale and Chatime bubble tea.
