Savoy! Dancing through the Swing Era takes the audience on a journey through the swing era by following its main character, Lillian Carlyle, an aspiring dancer from Hollywood. The show features authentic jazz music by Big Band greats such as Duke Ellington and Benny Goodman, vintage fashions from ‘20s, ‘30s and ‘40s, and, most importantly, the popular Lindy Hop dance. The high energy choreography includes classic movements such as swing outs, Charleston and air steps, mixed with other styles, from tap, ballroom to Russian folk dance.
Our audience will not just be a passive viewer, but an integral part of the show by dancing and singing along during our performance. At the end of the show, we will teach a historical Jazz dance called Shim Sham so that we can all perform the dance together. We believe Lindy Hop is the dance and music for everyone, and we hope that our audience will feel not only uplifted and empowered through this ebullient and powerful dance and music, but also feel connected with performers as well as with one another.
